Optimization problems with interfaces and free
boundaries frequently appear in materials science, fluid dynamics,
topology
optimization, biology, finance and in other applicational areas.
Modelling of these phenomena often yield variational problems and
highly nonlinear partial differential equations or inequalities. The
analysis of these problems including optimization of variational
inequalities and geometric PDEs is a notorously
difficult task. The developement of efficient numerical methods for the
simulation of interface evolution and free boundaries as well as for
optimization problems with PDE constraints is a vastly growing field.
The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers
with different backgrounds to combine the experience in these areas.
The meeting will start with a spring
school in which an
introduction to the themes of the conference will be given.
On Tuesday March 24th at 14:00 the meeting will proceed with the
conference.
