The European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences, ECCOMAS, was created in 1993 with the aim of providing an intense coordination of scientific conferences and other activities in Europe in the field of computational methods in applied sciences. Its council is formed by official representatives of national or European scientific societies or organizations covering most of the European countries.
ECCOMAS represents IACM (International Association for Computational Mechanics) in Europe. Its main mission is to favor the exchange of information and to promote the transfer between research and industry at a European scale. Its fields of interest are the applications of mathematical and computational methods and modelling to major areas such as fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, semi-conductor modelling or electromagnetics. Multidisciplinary applications of these fields to critical problems encountered in sectors like aerospace, car industry, energy, chemistry or environment are of course of particular interest.
The main event organized by ECCOMAS is a large European conference
taking place every second year and addressing scientists and engineers
both in and outside Europe. The main objective of these conferences
is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of state-of-the-art
in scientific computing applied to engineering sciences. Equal
emphasis is given to basic methodologies, scientific development
and industrial applications.
The subject of Computational Fluid Dynamics is addressed every
two years - and in the future the subject of Solid Mechanics/Numerical
Methods in Engineering as well -, while every four years a major
conference takes place, covering the whole field.
ECCOMAS has had or will have the following events:
- General conferences:
- CFD conferences:
- CSM conference(s):
.... and so on
Conference Proceedings have been made available, and will be made available, printed, and in the future also in disc format.
ECCOMAS takes care of the fact that it is operating within Europe with its founder societies/institutions, has to keep contact with European organizations like EMS, EUROMECH, .... and worldwide operating groups like IACM, IUTAM, IFToMM,....
