Preface

Industrial and Applied Mathematics is of growing importance solving real world problems. Advances in these broad fields are manifested by new solution methods and powerful computer algorithms. The International Conferences on Industrial and Applied Mathematics have been established to provide a forum to present recent developments in all areas of applied mathematics, computer science, applied stochastics and optimization and scientific computing. Moreover, the conferences focus attention on the wide range of applications of mathematics in all branches of science and engineering, medicine, economics and other related fields.

The scientific programme of the 3rd International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM 95) held in Hamburg, Germany, July 3-7, 1995, was composed of invited and contributed lectures, minisymposia and poster presentations.

In a separate volume published by Akademie-Verlag the invited lectures and contributions from the invited symposia are collected. In five special issues of ZAMM papers from minisymposia, contributed lectures and poster presentations have been selected, intending to give a record of the material presented during the conference. The following grouping of the papers was chosen:

This Supplement 2 contains minisymposia presentations, contributed lectures and poster presentations from applied analysis with special emphasis on applications in a large variety of disciplines. With this collection of papers results from different disciplines are presented to stimulate the mathematical efforts towards a better understanding and handling of problems in industry.

Without the great efforts of many colleagues it would not have been possible to prepare this volume. We gratefully acknowledge the help of many members of our staff during the preparation work on the proceedings.
