Required Documents

Please send the required documents listed below:

  • Application form - only required for non-German applicants
  • Official Transcript / Record of Study: Detailed documentation of your academic coursework (list of courses attended, including grades and credits)
  • Schoolleaving certificate
  • Degrees: Certificates of relevant examinations (e.g., Bachelor or Master degree, Vordiplom, Physikum)
  • Statement of Purpose: explanation of your intent to study
  • Curriculum Vitae: including complete address, phone numbers and e-mail. Please enclose also a passport-sized photograph
  • Financial Statement: explanation of how you plan to finance your studies (no proof of financial security is required at this time)
  • Two Letters of Reference: Originally signed letters from two academic instructors including an evaluation of your academic experience, intellectual merit, and personality (in closed envelopes; preferably mailed to the coordination office directly)
  • Proof of Proficiency in English: For German applicants the proof of a proficiency in english is included in the high-school certificate. Therefore, a language test is not necessary.

Special remarks for non-German applicants:

In addition to the documents listed above, international applicants have to hand in the following forms:

  • Declaration of financial support
  • Applicants from China, Vietnam and Mongolia: An APS certificate should be included to your application!
  • For further information about the APS, please refer to your country of residence: China, Vietnam, Mongolia
  • Applicants from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Georgia, Iran, Turkey, USA: Your documents (school leaving certificate and study certificates) will have to be checked by the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle (office for recognition of academic certificates) in Munich.

All documents must be submitted in English or German!

Certified copies of official documents are not mandatory at the time of submission.
However, certified copies of all relevant documents (e.g., diploma, transcripts) must be submitted upon acceptance to the programme. Documents can be certified, for example, by the dean's or registrar's office of your university, a German embassy or consulate, a branch of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a Goethe Institute, or a public notary.
