Previous Research of the Seifert Laboratory
On December 1, 2004, R. Seifert became Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Regensburg. His research interests are in the broad areas of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), G-proteins and effector systems.
While being a postdoc with Prof. G. Schultz (Department of
Pharmacology, Free University of Berlin) from 1986-1995, R. Seifert
worked on the regulation of the superoxide-generating NADPH oxidase of
phagocytes, protein kinase C, nucleotide receptors, chemoattractant
receptors, histamine H1- and H2-receptors,
receptor-independent G-protein activation by cationic-amphiphilic
substances and non-selective cation channels. From 1995-1998, R.
Seifert worked in Dr. B. Kobilka’s laboratory (Stanford University, CA, USA). His research focused on the analysis of b2-adrenoceptor-Gs-protein coupling taking advantage of the GPCR-Ga
fusion protein technique. From 1998-2004, R. Seifert was an Associate
Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the
University of Kansas (KU) (Lawrence, KS, USA). During his tenure at KU,
research focused on the molecular analysis of histamine H1- and H2-receptors, b-adrenoceptors, formyl peptide receptors, Gs-proteins and regulation of adenylyl cyclases (ACs) by fluorescent nucleotides.
