  • Synthesis and electrochemical characterization of novel thermally and electrochemically stable electrolytes, including non-aqueous electrolytes, low temperature molten salts (ionic liquids), polymer electrolytes, and gel electrolytes
  • Measurement and interpretation of temperature dependence of transport properties (viscosity, conductivity) of ionic conductors, including non-aqueous electrolytes, low temperature molten salts (ionic liquids), polymer electrolytes, and gel electrolytes
  • Investigation of phase diagrams of electrolyte solutions
  • Development of novel reference electrodes
  • Determination of ion-ion (association) and ion solvent interaction (solvation) in a large temperature range (-55°C to +135°C)
  • Measurement of density of electrolyte solutions in a large temperature range (-55°C to +135°C) from highly dilute to concentrated solutions up to saturation
  • Measurement of dielectric permittivity of solvents in a large temperature range (-55°C to +135°C)
  • Investigation of specific solvation and displacive solvation reactions
  • Investigation of ion-pair and triple-ion formation
  • Investigation of ion transference numbers (in preparation)
  • Investigation of kinetics of hydrolysis reactions of novel anions
  • Applied research in the fields high energy density batteries (lithium, lithium-ion) and double layer capacitors

  • Semi-empirical quantum mechanical calculations and thermodynamics of ion-solvent-clusters in the gas phase

  • 2 viscometric measuring equipments for the determination of viscosity of solvents and solutions
  • 3 conductivity measuring equipments for the determination of conductivity of electrolyte solutions and low temperature molten salts
  • 2 density measuring equipments for the determination of density of electrolyte solutions and low temperature molten salts
  • 3 precise thermostating equipments with baths for various methods
  • Glove box for highly pure nitrogen atmosphere, manufacturer: Mecaplex,
  • Glove box for highly pure argon atmosphere with titanium sponge nitrogen removal for experiments with lithium, manufacturer: MBRAUN
  • Electrochemical equipment IM5d and IM6 (manufacturer: Zahner) for the following experiments:
    • Studies of the cycleability of lithium at lithium and carbon electrodes
    • Determination of the voltage window of novel electrolytes
    • Determination of impurities
    • Impedance spectroscopic studies of electrodes and processes
    • Determination of the lithium ion transference number
  • Testing system for cycling batteries and supercapacitors (manufacturer BaSyTec)
  • Measuring equipment for the determination of mutual diffusion coefficients with the help of the TAYLOR-dispersion techique
  • Equipment for the determination of phase diagrams of electrolyte solutions (Manufacturer ASL)
