Cyclometalated platinum compounds as efficient phosphorescent materials for
organic light emitting devives (OLEDs): Synthesis, spectroscopy, material development, and applications
2008-20010
The cooperation of the workgroups of Prof. Dr. Hartmut Yersin (University of Regensburg, Germany) and Dr. J. A. Gareth Williams
(University of Durham, UK) is supported by the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and the British Council.
In this project it is planned to synthesize, characterize, and test new phosphorescent N^C^N-coordinated platinum(II) complexes
for applications in OLEDs. Triplet emitters like these are very suitable for this new technology
and attract many research groups in universities and industrial laboratories, since the maximum obtainable efficiency of these materials
can be by a factor of four higher than for purely organic molecules. The results of the spectroscopic investigations and the gained
knowledge will be used for the design of improved compounds. The most suitable materials will be tested as emitting materials
in OLED devices in cooperation with industrial partners. A further aim of the project is the involvement and scientific training
of young scientists.
