Cantus planus meeting Niederaltaich 2006

The next meeting of the Study Group 'Cantus Planus' of the International Musicological Society will take place in the Benedictine abbey of Niederaltaich in Bavaria, from Tuesday 29 August (arrival) to Monday 4 September (departure Labor Day in the USA).

Niederaltaich is situated on the Danube between Regensburg and Passau. As well as the magnificent abbey church where the Roman rite is celebrated it has a chapel where the Byzantine liturgy is performed (see www.abtei-niederaltaich.de, www.niederalteich.de or download a flyer of the guesthouse)

The plans for the meeting include the celebration of Matins of St Aegidius on the evening of Thursday 31 August, a day in Regensburg on Friday 1 September with library visits and a concert by the Schola Hungarica in the evening, and a short cruise on the Danube on Saturday 2 September. On Sunday 3 September we shall have the opportunity to attend the Roman or Orthodox church service.

Programme - Abstracts

The cost of attending the meeting is 380 Euros normal cost or 280 Euros for students with a valid Student Identity Card.
The fee covers full bed and board and excursions. We cannot, however, handle payment by credit card.

Niederaltaich can be reached by car (Autobahn A3) or by train to Plattling. We shall provide transport to and from Plattling, which is served regularly by international trains coming from Munich, Regensburg and Passau. If you fly to Munich Airport we shall meet you there and help you on your way to Plattling and Niederaltaich. Registration is from 10:00. The first fixed event is the Opening Ceremony at 17:30. Dinner will follow at 18:15, a keynote paper at 20:00.
