Regensburg International Graduate School of Life Sciences - RIGeL

RIGeL is an interdisciplinary institution of the biological and medical faculties of the University of Regensburg. The well structured PhD program assures a high quality of education where PhD students develop excellent scientific and academic skills, preparing young scientists for interesting careers in academia and industry - rewarding both to themselves and the society as a whole.

Divided into four branches, i) cellular biochemistry and biophysics, ii) molecular ecology and evolution, iii) neurobiology, and iv) biomedicine, RIGeL offers a well-structured PhD training concept and excellent research opportunities. Within these disciplines the faculty of RIGeL comprises more than 60 scientists, providing a broad spectrum of research opportunities in Life Sciences ranging from molecular mechanisms to complex biological systems.

The program is committed to familiarize its students with a wealth of state-of-the-art methods, providing them with the up-to-date concepts of modern biology and medicine. The combined scientific expertise and modern scientific facilities, which are located on the campus and the ‘Klinikum’ of the University of Regensburg provide the basis for excellent research.

Moreover, RIGeL is embedded in a flourishing surrounding with about 20 Biotech companies on campus (within the BioPark Regensburg) and a similar number in the greater Regensburg area.
