Qualification and Application

The program starts in the summer and winter semester. The winter semester is recommended as start of studies since some modules only start in the winter semester, and most practical courses are offered in WS.

For all information on application procedures for international students see the international office of the University of Regensburg: www.uni-regensburg.de/ur-international/international-students/application-admission-registration/index.html

Qualification

The qualification for the Master's program is given by the proof of a bachelor's degree in biology or a comparable degree with a minimum overall grade of "good" (2,5; german grading system).

Comparable is a first degree on the basis of a minimum of three years of study at a university in nature sciences subjects with minimum grade of "good" (2,5). The degree must be equivalent to a bachelor degree at the University of Regensburg.

If the final grade is worse than "good" (2,5) or the degree is not comparable, an invitation to an aptitude test can possibly follow by the chair of the examination committee.

Application deadlines:

registration

The registration for a Master's degree in biology takes place in the Registrar's Office.

Please note that for registration, all original documents, including the bachelor's certificate and the letter of acceptance, or the notification of successfully passing the aptitude test, are presented.

The decision on a passed aptitude test may be picked up by the Chair of the Examination Committee, Prof. Wirth (Room BIO 1.01.21; Tel. 943 1825).

aptitude test

If the final grade is worse than "good" (2,5) or the degree is not comparable, the applicant has to pass an aptitude test. The invitation will be sent per mail by the chair of the examination office.

The test is conducted as an oral peer review by three academics (botany, zoology, molecular biology) with a duration of 30 minutes.

Examination syllabus encompasses the content of the bachelor degree biology (cytology, anatomy and physiology of animals, plants and microorganisms, ecology, neurobiology, ethology, developmental biology, evolutionary biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics and the chemical and physical foundations of biology).

Selection of typical questions in the aptitude test: see!

The aptitude test is passed if the majority of auditors find that the performance meets the requirements of the Master's program in biology. The decision is "passed" or "fail".

The decision on a passed aptitude test can be picked up by the chair of the examination committee, Prof. Dr. Wirth (Room BIO 1.01.21, Tel. 943-1825).

Failed aptitude tests may be repeated once.

Period of the aptitude tests: 1st half of October for start in the winter semester, or 1st half of April for start in the summer semester

For all applicants whose final note of the bachelor's degree is not known until or until just before the period of the aptitude tests, a second period of approximately three to four weeks after the beginning of classes in the winter and summer semester is offered.
