In less than 30 minutes you will be able to use the WiFi at University of Regensburg (UR). All you have to do is go through the four steps below. The only thing you need to use the WiFi is a valid RZ-Account with a valid password.
The following procedure applies to all operating systems equally.
Establish a connection with eduroam with the device you're about to register. Authenticate with your RZ user name (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org) and your RZ password. If you now see the following message regarding the server identity, click on Connect.
After starting a web browser (for example Internet Explorer or Firefox), you will be automatically redirected to the RZ's computer registration page ("Rechnerregistrierung"):
Log in to your "Persönliche Statusseite" (Personalized Summary Page) with your user name (e.g. vip12345) and your password (choose "English" as language). Register your computer by clicking "Register Device" and then entering the following information:
After about 20 minutes, the registration is finished. You will receive a confirmation email.
If the connection succeeded, you have established a secure, encrypted connection to the data network of the University of Regensburg and into the Internet through the network eduroam.
You now need to verify the certificate. Click on the WiFi symbol in the Windows task bar in order to see all available networks on the right side.
Right click on the network eduroam and choose "Verbundeigenschaften anzeigen."
In the window displayed now, switch to the tab "Security", then click on "Preferences" as seen in the following screenshot.
Verify that a connection with the server "radius2.uni-regensburg.de" has been established. Scroll down in the list of trustworthy root certificate authorities until you see an entry named "Deutsche Telekom CA 2". Verify that this certificate is selected. Double click on the Telekom's certificate, then switch to the tab "Details". In the list appearing now, click on the field "fingerprint" and check if the value in the screenshot above matches the one on your computer.
If this is the case, close all open configuration windows (clicking OK, if you changed settings), then establish a connection with eduroam.
If you see a request regarding the preferred network location, please chooose "Public network".
Contact the Infostand of the Rechenzentrum if you have any questions or problems. Just write an email and explain your problem. We try to respond to your request as fast as possible. If your problem cannot be solved by email, the team of the Infostand looks forward to consulting you personally and directly on your computer during the opening hours.
