Department for Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine: Welcome!

About us

The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Regensburg is home to a multidisciplinary team of professors, researchers and scientists working in the fields of medicine, biology, mathematics, nutritional health, sociology, philosophy, psychology, epidemiology, biostatistics and bioinformatics. It includes:

  • The Chair for Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine - Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael Leitzmann
  • The Chair for Genetic Epidemiology - Prof. Dr. Iris Heid
  • The Professorship for Medical Sociology - Prof. Dr. Julika Loss

Goals

The fundamental goals of the department are the prevention of chronic disease in the population through the development of concepts and strategies used to detect risk at an early stage. Significant findings will be published with the intent of their implementation in health care and preventing disease.

Focus

The main emphasis is on research regarding prevention and healthcare, genetic epidemiology, cancer research and nutrition. Data will be generated with the assistance of epidemiological, statistical and qualitative methods.
