The Department for Forensic Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the District Hospital Regensburg is working in the subfield of psychiatry and psychology that is concerned with mentally ill offenders, including fundamental and applied research as well as clinical practice (treatment and hospitalization) and expert opinions, e.g. for determining of competency to stand trial.

Our department, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Osterheider, was founded in 2004. Our team is primarily focussing on research, in fundamental as well as applied research. Current research foci include the etiology, diagnosis and epidemiology of psychopathy and sexual deviance. Other research projects concern the clinical intervention in terms of psychotherapy with pedophilic clients and the evaluation of out-patient forensic aftercare.
