Current projects

  • Neural mechanisms of contour integration

    Contour integration is an intermediate step in object recognition by which segmented outlines of an object are integrated. We investigate the neural mechanisms of contour integration by means of psychophysical studies, as well as EEG and fMRI experiments. Open questions are, e.g., the interplay of local (bottom-up) and global (top-down) mechanisms of contour detection, or the underlying neural dynamics.
  • Grapheme-color synesthesia

    Grapheme-color synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon where subjects perceive a concurrent color when viewing objectively uncolored numbers or letters. We investigate short- and long-range synchrony of EEG oscillations within synesthetes. Furthermore, we explore the role of spatial attention for the emergence of the synesthetic color impression.
