Undergraduate Studies

Requests for the forms for the applications may be made at the IO (Akademisches Auslandsamt) or at the Office of the Registrar (Studentenkanzlei).

The application form for admission can also be opened, filled out, and printed as a PDF document in the Internet (download):

• Secondary school diplomas
• Proof of your academic studies, in case you have already studied abroad or in Germany (for example diplomas, transcripts, summary of grades, etc.)
• Proof of your German proficiency (for example certificates from German-language courses or of participation in courses): to apply for studies you must demonstrate at least 800 hours of German instruction (see Language Requirements)
• Financial Declaration: Included with the application documents is a statement that you possess the adequate finances for your living and those necessary for your academic-study during the projected duration of your academic study. You can download this financial declaration here.
• Copy of passport

How should the documents be formatted and enclosed?

• Notarised copy of the original: the notarisation must be made from a German site, best of all from the German Embassy in your home country.
• Notarised translation (notarised through a sworn translator) of the documents in a foreign language

Exception: Certificates in English and French do not need to be translated

If you want to apply for a preparatory German-language course, the application is carried out just like the regular application for academic study.

Application forms, certificates, and proof of your German-language proficiency (proof of level A2 when applying). Please check YES on item 11 last page of the application form ("Antrag auf Zulassung zum Sprachkurs").

Because only a limited number of places are available, not all applicants are able to be admitted. Students who do not receive a place should enrol in an intensive language course at a private language school in the city.

The following application deadlines apply to almost all first degree programmes:

January 15, for the Summer semester
July 15, for the Winter semester

Exceptions: A few first degree programmes with selection processes have earlier application deadlines. You will find these deadlines on the lists of subjects offered.
