A1 Course descripiton

The program for every level of German language class for students enrolled in a degree program consists of the core curriculum of the level, designed to improve your language skills in a coordinated and systematic way, and additional courses, in which you can practice and strengthen your language skills and acquire knowledge of the country and its culture.


core curriculum

Basic Level A1

Language course: Reading comprehension, listening comprehension and language structures

Placement level: A1• Hours per week (SWS): 8 • Course credits (ECTS): 12

This language class is an offer for students with very little or no knowledge of the German language. Simple listening and reading texts cover themes such as time, introductions, supermarket, etc. in order to prepare students for everyday life in Germany and quickly give them self-assurance in the language.

The goal of this course is for students to learn basic vocabulary and basic grammar skills and to practice written and verbal skills in simple everyday situations.

The final grade (Leistungsnachweis) consists of:

Mid-term (40 %)
Final test (60 %)

The following course books are used for this class:

•Tangram aktuell 1. Lektion 1–4, Kursbuch und Arbeitsbuch
•Tangram aktuell 1. Lektion 5-8, Kursbuch und Arbeitsbuch

Additional materials will be provided.


Basic Level A1

Writing

Placement level: A1• Hours per week (SWS): 2 • Course credits (ECTS): 3

This intensification course provides step-by-step basics for producing small, topic-oriented types of texts such as postcards, emails, and short personal and formal letters or notes in order to enable communicative and functional writing in the foreign language.

In dealing with these various types of texts, students learn specific vocabulary while simultaneously practicing their formal structures.

In addition, students practice German orthography and make use of and strengthen existing grammar knowledge.

The final grade (Leistungsnachweis) consists of:

• Semester project work (40%)
• Final test (60%)

Materials will be provided.


Basic Level A1

Speaking

Placement level: A1• Hours per week (SWS): 2 • Course credits (ECTS): 3

IIn this intensification course, students practice free and situation-dependent speaking with the help of small dialogues, speaking games, and role plays. In addition to expanding speaking skills, the course also focuses on training correct pronunciation.

The final grade (Leistungsnachweis) consists of:

• Short presentation (60%)
• Active participation in class (40%)
