Core Curriculum
Language course: Reading comprehension, listening comprehension and language structures
Placement level: A2• Hours per week (SWS): 8 • Course credits (ECTS): 12
This weekly 8 hour course is offered for students with a language proficiency level of A2. Vocabulary, grammar, and the four basic language skills are practiced. Students gain global reading and listening knowledge through practice with simple, short reading and listening exercises extracted from authentic sources. Basic vocabulary and grammar skills are intensified and written and verbal communication in simple everyday situations is practiced.
In order to receive a graded certificate of participation (benoteten Teilnahmeschein), regular attendance and successful participation in a mid-term and final exam are necessary.

Writing
Placement level: A2• Hours per week (SWS): 2 • Course credits (ECTS): 3
This intensification course helps students practice useful phrases used in various types of texts such as personal and formal letters and emails, CVs, and descriptions of pictures and graphics. The specific language structures learned in the A2 Speaking Course are reviewed in the the production of written texts and are solidified through further written exercises. Special attention is given to typical A2 level mistakes in text production such as word order and declension.
The final grade (Leistungsnachweis) consists of a final exam.

Speaking

In this intensification course, students will become familiar with useful phrases dealing with discussions and stating opinions. Verbal communication is practiced in dialogue exercises and role plays in pair work and in small groups. Vocabulary and language structures covered in the A2 Language course are reviewed and practiced verbally. Students are able to train their verbal expression of certain themes in the German language by giving small presentations.
The final grade (Leistungsnachweis) consists of:
• Short presentation (50%)
• Oral test of speaking skills (50%)
