Kommunikationsraum Adria: Befunde, Interpretationen, Narrative

Sebastian Adlung (Hamburg)

This lecture will be held in German - this is an English summary of the talk:

The project “Adriatic communication area” (Kommunikationsraum Adria) explores various questions relating to Roman coastal settlements and forms part of the comparative regional study being developed in the DFG Priority Programme SPP 1630 Harbours from the Roman Iron Age until the Middle Ages - Archaeology and History of Regional and Supra-regional Traffic Systems. Central to this project is the systematic analysis of archaeological finds, with a particular focus on geographical spaces, traffic systems, certain commodities that were traded, and particular actors. The lecture explores the research conditions that have shaped which narratives influence the visibility of particular areas and objects that form the focus of research.

This talk was originally scheduled to be held by Martina Seifert but will now be held by Sebastian Adlung, who also worked on this research project.
