Contents
This lecture combines an introduction to the chemical industry with a quantitative, model-based perspective on the management of industrial production and logistics. Industry-specific content is consistently linked with formal modelling approaches in order to develop an analytically sound perspective on economic issues within the chemical industry.
The tutorial deepens and consolidates the lecture material through independent work on modelling and computational exercises. The focus is on applying these concepts to specific examples from the chemical industry.
All materials are made available via the learning management system.
Learning objectives
Upon successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- Describe and contextualise the structure, distinctive features and current challenges facing the chemical industry
- formally model production and logistics processes in the chemical industry
- to explain economic, environmental and social assessment frameworks, distinguish between them and apply them to processes and products in the chemical industry
- to develop simple optimisation models for typical planning problems in the chemical industry.
