Melanie Troll's research specialises in individual development in the visual arts. Her central research topics are the developmental processes of visual artists, in particular, the significance of the experience of autonomy in decision making and credibility in public. Through a longitudinal study of visual artists throughout Germany, the project compares the same critical incidents during academic careers at art academies. A contrasting comparison of the different professional development paths is intended to make a profitable contribution to education expertise research.

Melanie Troll deepened her teaching skills through the programme of the Centre for University and Academic Teaching in Regensburg and is a recurring jury member of the Teaching Innovation Award of the University of Regensburg. She is responsible for supervising our external lecturers. In her role as internship supervisor, she is also in constant dialogue with our students. Furthermore, Melanie Troll acts as facilitator for the IT infrastructure at the department.
