Film screening of "Meet the Pickers" at M26 (Maximilianstraße 26, Regensburg) followed by a lecture and discussion with Dr Thiemann (Chair of Ecological Anthropology, Prague)

02 June 2025, by DIMAS

We cordially invite you to watch the film "Meet the Pickers" at M26 (Maximilianstraße 26, Regensburg) followed by a lecture and discussion with Dr Thiemann (Chair of Ecological Anthropology, Prague):

(The film will be shown in the original language with German subtitles).

The film provides a comprehensive insight into the precarious situation of harvest workers in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal, who carry out the arduous work of picking olives, oranges, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. More than two million seasonal agricultural workers are employed in this sector. They play an important role in the production of food. This often means that they live in inhumane conditions, receive low pay, have inadequate healthcare and basic human rights are not respected.

In the subsequent discussion, Dr Thiemann will take a closer look at this phenomenon, shedding light on political ecology and the connection between value chains and infrastructures from the perspective of social and cultural anthropology.

You can find a flyer for the event here (opens in a new window). (This PDF is not accessible).
