The workshop on Ecochronotopes in Transmedial Fictions from the Americas will explore how ecocritical narratives and their spatiotemporal structures can be read spatially across different media, including literature, graphic novels, digital fiction, and video games.
A key focus of the workshop will be the methodological challenges posed by audiovisual and procedural narratives. Unlike traditional traditional print fiction, comics, graphic novels and digital-born fictions rely on interactivity, spatial immersion, and dynamic image-text designs, raising crucial questions about how ecological themes and chronotopes are constructed and perceived. How do spatial storytelling techniques differ between text-based and multimodal forms? What role do algorithmic and generative elements play in shaping eco-fictional chronotopes?
To address these questions, we are pleased to welcome three distinguished guest speakers:
• Prof. Dr. Manuel Burghardt (Universität Leipzig)
• Prof. Dr. Anastasia Glawion (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
• Prof. Dr. Julian Schröter (LMU München)
The workshop will foster an interdisciplinary dialogue between scholars from Comparative Literature, Digital Humanities, Media Studies, and Area Studies. The workshop will be held in German. You can find a poster of the workshop here.
