11 November 2024, by DIMAS

An event organized by the Department of Interdisciplinary and Multiscalar Area Studies in cooperation with the Zentrum Erinnerungskultur, the Lehrstuhl für Öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht, and the Lehrstuhl Pädagogik bei Verhaltensstörungen, including inklusive Pädagogik.

Whether in the debate on inclusion or prenatal diagnostics, the controversy over how society treats people with disabilities and the “right” lessons to be learned from Nazi eugenics and “euthanasia” murders continues unabated. In her new book, Dagmar Herzog writes a history of intellectual impairment by tracing the debates about the value of disabled life as they have been conducted over the last 150 years. Unlearning eugenics has proven to be an extraordinarily difficult process in Germany, one that is still ongoing today.
