University of Regensburg Boosts Sustainability Goals

Executive Board appoints Sustainability Officer—Green Office to become part of the Presidential Department

April 19, 2023

To further intensify endeavors towards sustainability at the University of Regensburg, Prof. Dr. Andreas Roider has been appointed to the position of University Management Sustainability Officer. At the same time, the Green Office, headed by Ann-Kathrin Roßner, has been made part of the Presidential Department .

At the beginning of 2023, students from the University of Regensburg presented Prof. Dr. Udo Hebel, President of the University of Regensburg, with a draft of a sustainability concept for the university which they had prepared. The sustainability concept serves as a starting point for a sustainability strategy for the entire university.

The appointment of a University Management Sustainability Officer and the movement of  the Green Office from the university administration to the Presidential Department with a direct link to the newly appointed officer, means that the field of action of governance, i.e. the institutional anchoring of sustainability and the strategic handling of the topic, which the draft sustainability concept prominently addresses, will be addressed in advance. The university has succeeded in acquiring Prof. Dr. Andreas Roider, Chair of Economics (Microeconomics), for the future-relevant task of University Management Sustainability Officer. Prof. Roider was appointed to the office by President Hebel at the beginning of the summer semester in accordance with the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG Art 30 (5)).

“I am delighted to have been able to win over Prof. Dr. Andreas Roider, an extremely committed colleague who is extremely well versed in the field of sustainability, as the University Management Sustainability Officer. Armed with his support and together with the Green Office, we can now focus on the university’s sustainability goals more intensively and pursue them even more vigorously,” explains President Hebel.

“I am looking forward to this important task. Needless to say, in the process, I will be able to build on the excellent potential already in place at the University of Regensburg concerning the many facets of sustainability. Establishing the office also demonstrates the importance the executive board attaches to the topic. Together with the Green Office and all the university staff, I would now like to push forward with the university’s sustainability strategy,” explains Prof. Dr. Andreas Roider.
