For the first time, the University of Regensburg (UR) has made it into the top 100 of the world's best universities with two subjects in the Shanghai Subject Ranking ('Global Ranking of Academic Subjects'): 'Mathematics' and 'Dentistry & Oral Sciences'.
Both subjects are listed in the 76-100 group. In 'Dentistry & Oral Sciences', the UR shares second place in Germany with the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität Munich and the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. In 'Mathematics', UR is ranked third in Germany.
In the ranking, which includes more than 1,900 universities from 96 countries, other subjects also achieved good positions. The subjects 'Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences', 'Biomedical Engineering' and 'Education' were not represented in last year's ranking and have now made it directly into the 201-300 ranking group.
The subjects 'Biological Sciences' and 'Clinical Medicine' have each moved up 100 places into the 201-300 and 301-400 rankings respectively. The subject 'Management' is also ranked for the first time and reaches the 401-500 group.
Human Biological Sciences" maintains its position in the 151-200 group and "Chemistry" in the 201-300 group. The position of 'Medical Technology' remains stable in the 301-400 group.
In the Global Ranking of Academic Subject, international universities have been assessed annually since 2017 in 55 subjects from the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. Various indicators are calculated for the ranking. Influential publications, citations and the number of research awards received by UR scientists are important factors.
