Elisa Manzo: Jerusalem On Fire. Interpreting Daniel in Orosius's Historiae

Although there is certainly some scientific interest in Orosius, the use and interpretation of sacred texts in his historical work, the "Historiae adversus paganos", is still a neglected topic. Yet, not only is the presence – both textual and theological – of sacred texts tangible in this work, but above all they represent a privileged lens that shapes his analysis of historical events.
Among the most used sacred texts in the "Historiae", Old Testament Prophets emerge. In this paper, I will be focusing on Orosius's interpretation of Daniel in Book 7, Chapter 3. Here, the author mentions a well-known passage from Daniel, giving it a peculiar and in some way unique interpretation.
