Yii-Jan Lin: “What Is Creative Philology?”
Traditional philology seeks to reconstruct and recover the past. Textual critics do this by sifting through multitudinous variants to find a singular text deemed authentic or closest to the original. But can philology and textual criticism create and construct, rather than re-create and reconstruct? Can the diversity of evidence sifted out of the “canonical” be used in a new philological mission?
In her paper, Yii-Jan Lin (Yale Divinity School) is going to give answers to these questions. All interested are welcome.
