Shifting Borders, Fluid Landscapes
The photo exhibition in the foyer of the University Library brings Eastern Europe's industrial past into focus for the Regensburg community.
At the heart of the exhibition are two historically significant industrial regions: Upper Silesia and Donbas. Upper Silesia, a region that once straddled the border between Germany and Poland, has witnessed numerous border changes and structural transformations, ultimately adapting to the realities of the post-industrial era. In contrast, the Donbas, a mining region in eastern Ukraine, faces a profound upheaval due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
Although the exhibition doesn't directly address the war in Donbas, the typological similarities between the landscapes—both above and below ground—highlight the stark contrasts in the regions' trajectories.
The exhibition showcases the work of four remarkable artists whose lives are intimately connected to these regions: Viktor Marushchenko (1946-2020), Karolina Jonderko (*1985), Alexander Chekmenev (*1969), and Michał Cała (*1948).
