Research at UR is extremely successful in the natural sciences, life sciences and humanities. 2022 among others, seven Collaborative Research Centers funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and eight "Grants" from the European Research Council attest to its research strength. In 2017, the Institute for East and Southeast European Research (IOS), an affiliated institute of the UR, was the first institution in Regensburg to be accepted into the renowned Leibniz Association, followed in 2022 by the Regensburg Center for Interventional Immunology (RCI), which emerged from the UR. The "Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy" - RUN for short - is currently being established at the university, where the ultrafast quantum movements of atoms and molecules will be researched using novel, ultrahigh-resolution slow-motion cameras. In spring 2022, the German Science Council recommended funding for the "Center for Immunomedicine in Transplantation and Oncology" (CITO) at UR, a center for basic research in immunomedicine.
