Preparatory language courses

Study preparatory German courses

UR offers several preparatory language courses. However, we offer no courses for absolute beginners. Applicants should have accomplished level A2 when they apply for a language course.

Applicants need to fulfil all academic requirements for admission and need to apply officially for a degree programme according to the application requirements. After successful application, you have the status of a student of the University of Regensburg and can use all the offers and facilities like regular students (e. g. Mensa, library, rvv semester ticket).

Course levels

Depending on the number of participants, we offer te following course levels:

Course level CEFR level

Basic Level (Basiskurs)

Intermediate Level I (Aufbaukurs I) B1+
Intermediate Level II (Aufbaukurs II) B2
Qualification Level (Hauptkurs) B2+/C1

Prerequisites and placement

The prerequisite foImage Auslaendische Studierende Ar _51-kleinr participation in the German courses to prepare for studies is completion of the level A2. Based on the certificate you submitted with your application you will be placed in a course level. If you improve your language skills until the beginning of the course, you can either submit a new certificate or you can take a placement test to document your improved language knowledge.

As placement test usually the onDaF is used. Alternatively to onDaF also the following certificates are usually accepted:

Costs & Living

Course Fees

The semester coursese are due to a fee of EUR 530,- for the course itself and EUR 140,40 (as of: 01/2017) in addition for the student service fee (Studentenwerksbeitrag). This student service fee includes a ticket for public transport  in and around Regensburg.

We cannot offer accomodation within the preparatory course programme. This means you will have to look for accomodation yourself. However, as you have the satus of a student of the University of Regensburg, you may apply for student housing. More information here.
