From Munich Airport

A direct train service operates between Munich Airport and Regensburg main station. Go to the lower level train station in the Munich Airport. A direct train departs to Regensburg usually 28 minutes after the hour. Duration of the direct ride is 1 hour 17 minutes.

Alternatively, there is a regular bus service – number 635 of Münchner Verkehrsbetriebe – from Terminal 2 to Freising Train Station. A direct train service from Freising takes you to Regensburg within 60 or 90 minutes.

You might also want to use the collective shuttle service Airportliner that offers airport transfer from Munich Airport to Regensburg. Please note that this service needs to be booked in advance online.

From Nuremberg Airport
A city bus or the subway will bring you to Nuremberg Main Station. A direct train service (approximately every hour) operates between Nuremberg and Regensburg. The train ride will take between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the type of train.

Newsletter "Research in Germany.de"

Research in Germany.de is an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The newsletter is published every two months by the DAAD and offers news from all fields of study.

Broadcasting Licence Fee

According to the German Broadcasting Licence Fee, each housing unit is required to pay a flat charge of € 17.50 a month. The fee is paid every three months and is independent of the number of devices.

Student's residence: every student living in a student's residence must pay the licence fee.

Students who live in a flat-sharing community or with a roommate: only one of them has to be registered by the "ARD ZDF Deutschlandradio Beitragservice" and pay the licence fee. How to share the costs is up to the tenants.

UR: Rising star in natural sciences!

The University of Regensburg ranks place 59 in the Nature Index 2016. This database tracks the amount of research that more than 8,000 universities have contributed to 68 high-quality journals. The Rising Stars list includes the top 100 most improved institutions, based on the change in the number of publications by weighted fractional count (WFC).

UR: Favorite university for international researchers!


Universität Regensburg is still the favorite university in Germany for researchers in the natural sciences that come from abroad. This outcome of the 2014 ranking of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation repeats the same result as in 2012. In the category "Natural Sciences", the UR achieved first place with 48 visiting scholars (international awardees and scholarship holders). Within the overall ranking, the UR is among the top 20 most popular German universities.

The Humboldt ranking shows which universities and research centers are most popular among international researchers. The Humboldt-awardees choose their host institution and based on the research quality and the international recognition of the institutions.


Free WiFi with BayernWLAN at UR and University Hospital

Thanks to BayernWLANs it is now possible for all visitors, congress participants and international visiting researchers of UR to access the internet round the clock, without limits, safely and with parental control .


The University of Regensburg and the University Hospital provide at the moment 285 and 100 Hotspots for BayernWLAN, respectively. In the next couple of months BayernWLAN will be active in all 500 Hotspots located on the university campus. At the University Hospital there is currently free BayernWLAN in the Children's Hospital and in all waiting areas as well as partially in hallways of the University Hospital.
