Network of scholars and practitioners

The conference is organized by a network of scholars and practitioners that already in 2018 held the successful conference "Leaf or Page. What It Means to 'Read' a Manuscript" at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures at the University of Hamburg. Prof. Dr. Christian Benne is a comparatist researcher at the University of Copenhagen - he works intensively on the functions and potentials of manuscripts. Prof. Dr. Bernhard Dotzler is a media scholar at the University of Regensburg and investigates the connections between media history and concepts of knowledge. Prof. Dr. Christine Haug directs the Centre for Book Studies at LMU Munich and is chair of the International Society for Book Studies. Dr. André Schüller-Zwierlein is director of the University Library of Regensburg and publishes regularly on issues of cultural transmission, reading research, and literary manuscripts. Prof. Dr. Carlos Spoerhase is a Germanist at the University of Bielefeld and is intensively involved with the materiality of literary media.

International Society for Book Studies (IBG)

The focus of their programme and event activities are in contemporary issues relating to the book and book market since 1945. The IBG offers scholars, authors, publishers, IT and printing specialists and librarians a platform to consider the medium of the book in an interdisciplinary perspective. The book should be understood in the context of media culture in its entirety in order to grasp more precisely its forms and functions with regard to other media.
