General Information on Theses

Thesis Topic Allocation and Information Session

The topics for bachelor’s and master’s theses are discussed directly with the advisors. Usually, an information session is held during the final weeks of the semester to provide all important details about thesis assignments and to answer any organizational questions related to the upcoming semester's theses.

Next information session

  • Date: Thursday, July 16, 2026
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. s.t.
  • Location: Zoom
  • Login details: will be provided in advance

Who supervises theses?

Supervision is typically provided by our research associates. Upon agreement, Ph.D. students may also serve as supervisors.

When should a request be made?

  • Bachelor's theses: starting in the 5th semester
  • Master's theses: at any time

Supervision Procedure

The frequency and nature of meetings will be arranged individually with your advisors. Generally, you're expected to work independently and take responsibility for your own work. If you face any issues, attempt to find solutions on your own first; only contact us if these efforts fail.

Choosing a topic

Track 1: Pre-Defined Theme and Design

If you want to finish your work quickly or don’t have a specific topic in mind yet, you will be assigned a clearly defined project. Research questions and, if relevant, hypotheses have already been set. The design and methodological approach are usually not changeable, as data collection is often part of a larger research effort. Minor adjustments might be possible after discussing them with your advisor.

Track 2: Developing and Formulating Your Own Topic

If you are motivated and confident in developing your own research topic, you can contact us with a proposal that aligns with our chair’s research priorities. We will discuss the next steps and help you develop your topic in detail. Keep in mind that this option takes more time—for both you and us—than Track 1. Therefore, Track 2 requires a strong sense of self-motivation, independence, and personal responsibility.
