News: Jonas Hauck at the "Pint of Science" in Regensburg

23 May 2023, by Chair of Educational Data Science

From 22 to 24 May, the internationally renowned science festival "Pint of Science" took place in Regensburg, where scientists presented their research to a wide audience in a relaxed atmosphere in pubs. The aim was to communicate complex scientific findings in an understandable way and make them accessible to a diverse audience.
In this inspiring setting, our colleague Jonas Hauck gave a lecture on 22 May in the Degginger on the topic of "The power of data traces: How tracking data is revolutionising educational research". Despite the beautiful weather, the lecture was very well attended. The content was about how tracking data generated during learning on platforms can provide valuable insights into learners' behaviour, learning patterns and difficulties. By using this data, it is possible to objectively measure learning behaviour without having to rely on subjective self-reporting by respondents.
The presentation is related to the ongoing research project "Regensburger Stimmtraining" at the University of Regensburg, in which an app for the vocal health of teachers is being developed. The aim of the research project is to record the influence of the app on teachers' voice health and their experience of stress. By analysing tracking data, objective statements can be made, e.g. about the duration of use of the app and other relevant parameters.
