Immune Cell Communication
Overview
The overarching aim of our research is to understand how local immune responses are orchestrated to maintain tissue homeostasis under inflammatory conditions.
In particular, we aim to understand the interaction between tissue-resident immune cells and the surrounding tissue. In doing so, we focus on understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms through which pro- and anti-inflammatory stimuli determine the outcome of local immune responses. Deficiencies in local immune regulation frequently lead to inflammation-associated diseases such as fibrotic conditions, atherosclerosis or arthritis, as well as to autoimmune diseases or allergies.
In collaboration with other research groups at the University Hospital Regensburg and the Leibniz Institute for Immunotherapy (external link, opens in a new window), the aim of our research is to utilise our understanding of these fundamental mechanisms to find more effective ways of treating inflammation-associated diseases.
