The theological disciplines of religious education and didactics are interested in different places where people can acquire religious education, including the Christian community. In the context of a mobile and digital society, however, traditional models of describing "congregation" provide a picture that can only visualise partial dimensions. This publication therefore first attempts to use sociological concepts of space to show how Christians form congregations. On this basis, current models of the church can then be critically scrutinised and the contours of a new spatial image can be made visible.
