Intensive German Language Courses

Language-ready for the semester

In cooperation with the International Office of the UR, the German as a Foreign Language department (DaF) offers intensive language courses during the lecture-free period before the start of the semester. These courses help international students improve their German skills – for a successful start to their studies and a smooth transition to life in Regensburg.

Course Structure

The intensive language courses are offered at levels A1 to B2 and consist of two components:

  • Course 1: Language course - 80 course hours
  • Course 2: Language training - 24 course hours

→ Total: 104 course hours / 20 course days

Please note:

  • Within one course, it is possible to complete half a level.
  • In addition to language instruction, the programme includes various activities and excursions, guided by tutors.

  • During the lecture-free period
  • Course start: approx. 5 weeks before the start of the lecture period
  • Duration: 4 weeks / 20 course days
  • Classes from Monday to Friday

Placement

  • Compulsory placement test
  • Placement test date: Thursday before the start of the course

Registration & Fees

  • Registration exclusively via the International Office of the University of Regensburg
  • OTH students, PhD students, staff members, and visiting scholars of the UR: participation only subject to availability and upon request
  • Course fees: between € 395 and € 475, depending on status – exact fees are provided by the International Office
  • Accommodation and living expenses are not included in the course fee
  • Fee waivers for selected degree programs are available through iSTEPS

Certificates & ECTS

  • Upon successful completion: certificate with grade and 12 ECTS credits
  • Requirements:
    • at least 75% attendance
    • active participation
    • successful completion of assessments
  • Assessment components:
    • Language course: interim test (40%), final test (60%)
    • Language training: active participation (40%), course project (60%)
  • Overall grade: language course (75%), language training (25%)
