International students can develop their Geman language skills in our in-sessional courses - building confidence for both academic studies and everyday life.
Our wide range of courses covers levels A1 to C2 and combines language learning with cultural, literary, and creative approaches to the German language and society. In this way, participants not only acquire language skills, but also gain cultural knowledge and insights into life in Germany.
The courses are open to international students from all disciplines and can be taken alongside their studies.

Course Formats
- Classroom courses: fixed schedule at the university
- Online courses: flexible, asynchronous, with optional Zoom meetings
Placement
- A placement test is not compulsory; however, if there is any doubt about whether the admission requirements are met:
- admission to the course may be denied or registration may be cancelled.
- participation or admission may be made dependent on a placement test.

Registration & Admission
- Registration via the SPUR student portal during the registration or late registration period
Interested parties without a UR student account (e.g. OTH students, visiting scholars) must register on SPUR in advance

Please note:
- Registration for a course does not guarantee admission.
- Admission is granted after the end of the registration period.
- Students who fail to attend the first session without notice will lose their place on the course.
Certificates & ECTS
- Upon successful completion: certificate with grade and ECTS credits
- Usually: 1.5 ECTS per weekly semester hour, some courses awarded: 2 ECTS
- Requirements for obtaining a certificate and ECTS:
- at least 75% attendance
- active participation
- successful completion of assessments
