Welcome to the homepage of the Chair of Production Management

Professor Dr. Justus Arne Schwarz and the team of the Chair of Production Management address design and control problems in modern production systems. A crucial challenge of production management in research and practice is digitalization. Accounting for new technologies, known under the term Industry 4.0, is key for successful production management. In research as well as teaching, business decisions are modeled as optimization problems and addressed with quantitative Business Analytics approaches to obtain managerial insights.

New publication: New Product Introductions with Selection of Unique and Common Features in Monopoly Markets

In the internationally renowned journal Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, the latest research of Prof. Dr. Schwarz appears in the article "New Product Introductions with Selection of Unique and Common Features in Monopoly Markets"

In the joint work with colleagues from Koc University in Istanbul, product design and production decisions of companies when introducing new products and their pricing are examined taking existing products into account. In particular, the research examines the interactions between unique and common product features in different product generations. For example, the research suggests that under the conditions studied, companies should remove existing products from the market to avoid demand cannibalization instead of offering two products with mainly unique features.
