Retail Real Estate

Welcome to this website. The pages on research and teaching provide some information on our themes of interest - drawn from retail real estate, urban economics and economic geography.

(Cast Iron Market Hall, Berlin)

Retail real estate provides one platform to the exchange of goods, and so is a building block of the market economy. Often retail properties localize, and such clusters of retail properties even define the traditional center of the city. As famous historical institutions such as the passages and bazaars of ancient Persia, the 18th century Palais Royal in Paris, or the early 20th century Selfridges Department Store in London illustrate, retail real estate contributes to a society's welfare and even politics. The following pages (on research and teaching) address some of the issues related to these themes.
