Institute of Psychology
Welcome to the Institute of Psychology
The Institute of Psychology is one of four institutes in the Faculty of Human Sciences. Its research and teaching focuses on human experience and behaviour. Building on the fundamental sub-areas of psychology, the focus is also on the scientifically sound application of this knowledge in the fields of clinical psychology and psychotherapy, cognitive and neuropsychology, occupational and organisational psychology, educational psychology and other professional fields.
In total, the Institute of Psychology comprises nine chairs or work units (see below), which research and teach both the fundamentals and applications of psychology with different specialisations.
A central research topic of the Institute is "Cognition and Emotion in Context", supplemented by other chair-specific research specialisations. One focus of the Institute is on experimental psychology research. In addition, the Institute of Psychology is closely networked with the other institutes of the Faculty of Human Sciences and with other faculties, in particular the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Informatics and Data Science and the Faculty of Business Economics and Real Estate.
The central study programmes include the Bachelor's degree programme in Psychology (B.Sc.)(link), in which the basics for different qualification profiles are taught in a cross-application manner, as well as the two Master's degree programmes in Psychology: Psychological Science (M.Sc.)(link) and Psychology with a focus on Biological Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (M.Sc.)(link). The Institute thus offers a comprehensive range of degree programmes that prepare students for the various fields of work in psychology(Link).
A particular concern of the Institute of Psychology is to provide students with sound scientific skills as well as a highly qualified and independent way of working so that they can work on and solve psychological problems in a well-founded manner in their later professional life.
