We are delighted that our colleague Sebastian Rohr has published an article in the prestigious journal *Computers & Education *. The paper, entitled “Do Strategies Make a Difference? Evaluating the Impact on Video-Based Learning and Student Engagement in K-12 Education”, was co-authored with Mario Frei, Sven Hilbert and Oliver Tepner (University of Regensburg). The study investigates whether targeted training in learning strategies for instructional videos – such as taking notes or rewinding at specific points – improves pupils’ learning. To this end, 410 Year 10 pupils were observed during chemistry lessons, and around 24,000 interactions with the videos were analysed. Although the pupils who received strategy training engaged more intensively with the videos – pausing more frequently, rewinding more often and watching for longer – However, there was no difference in learning gains compared with the control group. The key factor for learning success in both groups was, above all, whether the videos in question were watched at all.
*Computers & Education* is one of the leading international journals at the interface between educational research and digital technologies. All articles undergo a rigorous peer-review process.
We warmly congratulate Sebastian on this success!
