Welcome to the website of the Chair of European History (19th and 20th Century)

The chair represents the history of Europe from the beginning of the "long 19th century" to the present, especially from a comparative perspective. Teaching covers a broad spectrum with a geographical focus on English-speaking Western Europe, German-speaking Central Europe, Italy and Greece. The focus of teaching is determined by the interests and competences of the staff, as shown on their profile pages. Current and past research projects of the chair have dealt with topics such as urban and urbanisation research, the history of tourism, historical anthropology and environmental history, women's history and the history of Nazi violence.

The chair is also responsible for the two interdisciplinary English-languagedegree (external link, opens in a new window)programs "Master European Studies (external link, opens in a new window)" and "Bachelor Liberal Arts: Culture, History, Society (external link, opens in a new window)".
