News: Online presentation on the collection of Instagram data during the Bundestag election campaign

02 November 2026, by Jakob Berg

On 10 November at 4.00 pm, Jakob Berg, M.A., will give a webinar presentation at the University of Glasgow as part of the DEMED research project (“Democracy under Threat: How Education can Save it”). Under the title “Building Large-Scale Instagram Datasets for Political Communication Research: Lessons from the 2025 German Federal Election Campaign”, he will present the methodological foundations of a dataset comprising nearly 150,000 Instagram posts from the 2025 German federal election campaign.

The presentation will examine the design, implementation and challenges of data collection, and demonstrate how large-scale social media datasets can be utilised for political communication research. The dataset was compiled in collaboration with Prof. Dr Walter-Rogg and 20 students as part of a teaching and research project, and forms the basis for Jakob Berg’s doctoral thesis as well as further Master’s and Bachelor’s theses.
