The chair of Biochemistry III at the University of Regensburg is dedicated to research and teaching. We aim to contribute to our understanding of a fundamental cellular process, as well as to the education of students in the disciplines of biochemistry, biology and medicine.
The main objective of our research is the complex process of eukaryotic ribosome biogenesis. Ribosome synthesis involves transcription of ribosomal RNA gene chromatin, processing and assembly of ribosomal precursor molecules in the nucleolus and the nucleus, their transport to the cytoplasm and final maturation.
