About us

New Psychotherapeutic Outpatient Clinic for Clinical Neuropsychology

With the Chair of Clinical Neuropsychology & Neuropsychological Psychotherapy, a University Outpatient Clinic for Clinical Neuropsychology is currently being established.

Legislative reforms in the field of new psychotherapy degree programs are leading to the expansion of university outpatient clinics for psychotherapy. With the new branch of Clinical Neuropsychology and Neuropsychological Psychotherapy at the University of Regensburg, we want to expand our services and improve care for people affected by the cognitive and affective consequences of brain damage.

We offer neuropsychological psychotherapy for various neuropsychological disorders and psychological stress following brain damage. This typically includes topics such as coping with the disorder and/or cognitive training. Appropriate diagnostics are carried out before the start of therapy and during the course of treatment.

As a teaching and research outpatient clinic, we also conduct studies on neuropsychological dysfunction and neuropsychological psychotherapy and train psychologists and psychotherapists.

Research focus areas of the University Outpatient Clinic

  • Creation of materials for neuropsychological diagnostics
  • Creation of materials and programs for integrative neuropsychological therapy methods

as well as special topics, e.g.:

  • Low stress tolerance and fatigue (e.g., in post-COVID, multiple sclerosis)
  • Problems with everyday activities/handling objects (e.g., apraxia after stroke)

for people with brain damage (e.g., after stroke, traumatic brain injury, viral diseases, etc.).

Offers for psychology students at the University of Regensburg

  • Internship in the bachelor's program
  • BQT3 Internship (outpatient module)
  • still in the planning process: Offers within the framework of postgraduate continuing education after licensure

News

Dear patients,

With the new Chair of Clinical Neuropsychology & Neuropsychological Psychotherapy (since October 2024), a University Outpatient Clinic for Clinical Neuropsychology has been in development since 2025. We were able to launch our therapeutic services as guests at the children's and youth outpatient clinic of Prof. David Kolar's chair.

We are delighted that this service has been so well received in 2025, even without targeted advertising, to the extent that we already have a waiting list. We would like to thank you for the trust you have placed in us.

Due to high demand, we will continue to strive to expand our team, our premises, and thus also our range of services for you.

We are therefore very pleased to announce that the University of Regensburg is now enabling us to move into new premises on campus (with wheelchair access and appropriate restrooms). The move is planned for summer 2026.

We wish you all the best and, above all, good health.

The HSA-NP team

OUR SERVICES

Our services include general neuropsychological and psychotherapeutic treatment for individuals with cognitive and affective consequences of brain damage (based on guidelines).

The prerequisite for participation in therapy is always a neurological disorder diagnosed by a specialist (neurology/psychiatry) with an ICD10 code.

As a university outpatient clinic, we also address specific topics:

CURRENT GROUPS:

Our guided small groups have the advantage that we can offer treatment to several patients at the same time and that you can exchange ideas with other people affected by the same condition. The indication/possibility of participation is discussed in an initial consultation.

Group therapy for low stress tolerance and chronic fatigue (download flyer)

With Dietlind Harisch or Prof. Dr. Jennifer Randerath

Requirements for participation in the program:

  • A neurological disorder diagnosed by a specialist with an ICD10 code (G93.3x and, for example, U09.9 for post-COVID).
  • Since the onset of the illness, you have been suffering from severe exhaustion, problems with concentration and memory, and/or psychological stress. You are over 18 years of age and agree that your data from the diagnostic sessions may be evaluated anonymously as part of our research.
  • You are able to participate in two 50-minute sessions with a break.

Cognitive group (Train the brain)

With Dietlind Harisch and Birgit Becker

This group aims to train cognitive abilities (e.g., attention, memory, planning) in a collaborative and targeted manner. Strategies for improving cognitive abilities are also taught.

We are currently working on a standardized training program (12-24 units) for you. The therapy is designed to improve your expertise in your own abilities. Playful elements are also used in the exercises.

Requirements for participation in the program:

  • A neurological disorder (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, or multiple sclerosis) diagnosed by a specialist with an ICD10 code.
  • You suffer from impairments in your cognitive abilities.
  • You are able to exercise for 2 x 50 minutes with a break.

Group for coping with illness (ACT)

With Birgit Becker

This discussion group aims to provide a space for exchange, understanding, and new ways of dealing with neurological diseases. We work with ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) – an approach that supports mindful coping with the disease and helps to realign life more closely with personal values. The group concept is based on a program developed at Bielefeld University.

Requirements for program participation:

  • A neurological disease (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, or multiple sclerosis) diagnosed by a specialist with an ICD10 code.
  • You suffer from the impairments caused by your illness.
  • You are able to participate for 2 x 50 minutes with a break.
  • Do you think this is right for you? Then register now with the keyword “ACT” at: np-psychotherapie@ur.de

Steps to neuropsychological psychotherapy: Procedure

Registration for consultation / initial consultation

We would like to point out that costs are already charged for the first consultation, regardless of whether neuropsychological psychotherapy is subsequently started with us.

Cost bearers can be Statutory health insurance, private health insurance, subsidies, self-payers, other cost bearers

Consultation hour

The first step towards educational or research psychotherapy in our university outpatient clinic is to make an appointment for a consultation. You can contact the secretary's office by e-mail to make an appointment.

Scope: There are one or more consultation appointments lasting between 25 and 50 minutes. At least 50 minutes of consultation over 1-2 appointments are required to start psychotherapy.

Aim: During the consultation, it is clarified whether a neuropsychological disorder is present and whether neuropsychological psychotherapy is indicated and which further support measures are suitable. If outpatient neuropsychological psychotherapy is indicated, free places are available and there is interest in it, outpatient teaching or research psychotherapy can then be started with us.
