We are therefore delighted to welcome our new Professor of business chemistry, Prof. Dr Christian Weckenborg, for the 2025/26 winter semester; he took up his post at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy on 1 October 2025. Prof. Weckenborg works at the interface between sustainable chemical industry, industrial management and chemical product development. The aim of his work is to support industrial, political and societal stakeholders. To this end, he employs quantitative, computer-aided methods such as holistic sustainability assessment, mathematical optimisation and simulation.

The University of Regensburg has established a professorship in business chemistry – a clear sign of the high regard in which this interdisciplinary programme is held and of the commitment to strengthening it. The creation of this professorship marks an important milestone in the further development of the department. It also heralds the start of a new and exciting chapter for business chemistry in Regensburg and underlines its growing importance at the interface between chemistry and economics.
