News: New journal article on the configuration of hydrogen refuelling stations

We are delighted to share a new publication:
Bätge, T., Heinke, S., Weckenborg, C., Karig, M., Tegethoff, W., Köhler, J., & Spengler, T. S. (2026). Configuration planning for gaseous hydrogen refuelling stations: a techno-economic assessment. Journal of Business Economics.

05 January 2026, by Prof. Dr Christian Weckenborg

In collaboration with researchers from the fields of production and logistics management (Tjard Bätge, Marco Karig, Prof. Dr Thomas S. Spengler) and thermodynamics (Steffen Heinke, Wilhelm Tegethoff, Prof. Dr Jürgen Köhler) at the Technical University of Braunschweig, Prof. Dr Christian Weckenborg has developed a simulation-based approach for the evaluation and design of hydrogen refuelling stations. By coupling a 0D/1D simulation model with a mixed-integer linear optimisation model, it is possible to investigate the economic viability of hydrogen refuelling stations for any refuelling demand pattern. The method shows what capacities should be installed, when investments make sense, and whether it is economically advantageous to expand capacity gradually over time.
