Unique profile
The special features of the degree program can be described on the basis of four aspects: its special characteristics, the skills you acquire, the focus of the content and the career prospects.
What makes us special
- Intensive specialisation: Theories, research methods and practical references are systematically intertwined in many modules. The degree program builds on the Bachelor's degree program B.A. Education and deepens knowledge already acquired on topics such as theories of learning, educational organisation and socialisation as well as the basics of instructional design.
- Interdisciplinary perspective: The Master's programme integrates important research from other disciplines such as psychology and economics and discusses it specifically on the basis of pedagogical issues. This enables you to analyse complex educational processes from different perspectives and combine suitable theoretical and empirical approaches.
- Practical science: The degree program also focuses on teaching research-oriented skills. You will learn to work independently using scientific methods on the basis of exciting, practical projects .
- Internationalization: Together with the University of Turku in Finland, you have the opportunity to complete the Master's degree programme in the Standard Period of Study of four semesters and a stay abroad in Turku in the third Master's semester with degrees from both universities ("Double Degree"). Information on applying for the Finnish German Double Degree Master's programme can be found here.
You will acquire these competences:
Deepen theories and use them creatively
They build up an in-depth understanding of central paradigms, motivation and learning theories as well as models of learning environment development. They apply these to the theory-based conception, practical testing and reflective further development of educational measures (individual, organisational, society). This enables them to design, analyse and further develop learning processes in a well-founded and evidence-based manner.
Formulate ideas independently and test them empirically
You will acquire in-depth skills for the reflective planning and implementation of social and educational research. They acquire comprehensive knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods as well as advanced skills in dealing with multivariate statistical procedures and apply these to the planning, implementation and evaluation of empirical studies. This enables them to independently develop research questions, justify suitable designs, critically reflect on methodological decisions and present scientific results in a structured manner as well as participate in professional discourse in a well-founded manner.
Reflective practice design
You will develop a sound understanding of interdisciplinary research approaches, such as psychology and economics. You will also be able to recognise interdisciplinary connections and systematically apply different perspectives to educational issues. This enables you to analyse complex educational phenomena from multiple perspectives and link different theoretical and empirical approaches in a meaningful way.
Focus of the degree program
Foto: UR/Julia Dragan The Master's degree programme in Regensburg is characterised by a practical, interdisciplinary and research-oriented approach to various professionally relevant topics (in education). The programme focuses on the development of pedagogical measures in different domains as well as the conduct of own empirical studies.
The central focus of the Master's degree programme is on
- Vocational training and continuing education: What training and further education needs exist in organisations? What needs to be considered when planning, organising and evaluating training and continuing education?
- Learning in organisations: Who can learn from whom in an organisation? What conditions make it possible to learn from others? How can the knowledge of employees be optimally utilised for the company? How do organisations continue to develop?
- Professional learning: What characteristics (e.g. knowledge) characterise experts and how are they acquired? What is professional behaviour and how do experts learn?
- University research: How is knowledge acquired and used at universities? What methodological approaches need to be considered? What should be taken into account when designing teaching?
Central research methodological focal points are
- Conducting empirical studies with different designs (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, quasi-experimental) in different domains
- In-depth knowledge of inferential statistical analysis methods and their application
