Dr. Andreas Gmelch

Obituary Dr Andreas Gmelch

Dr Andreas Gmelch was responsible for the subject Didactics of Labour Studies at the Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg as an independent subject representative from 1980 to 2009. In this role, he played an important role in establishing and further developing the subject of Didactics of Work at Bavarian universities, both in terms of content and organisation. Through his diverse involvement in various committees (e.g. in the curriculum commission for the subject of labour studies at the Institute for School Quality and Educational Research and on the examination board of the Bavarian Ministry of Education) and through his numerous publications, he succeeded in establishing the importance of the subject of labour studies as a profile-forming subject in secondary modern schools. His students appreciated Dr Gmelch as a very competent and caring member of the teaching staff.
Dr Gmelch always played a decisive role in shaping the professional discourse on the content and scientific foundation of the subject of didactics of work in the working group of Bavarian work didactics experts through his many years of school practice, his experience in university teaching and his research work. Even after his retirement in 2009, he remained connected to the members of the working group in a professional and friendly exchange.
In Dr Gmelch, we have lost a highly esteemed colleague whose friendly, humorous and helpful manner will be greatly missed.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
